PSN Reviews: The Last Guy

Have you ever thought what would happen if the world ended tomorrow and was infested with Zombies and monsters waiting to devour your brains and possibly your soul? How would you survive and would you risk your life to save others at the time? What would you do if you were 'The Last Guy'?

Well none of those questions matter in this funky but fresh Japanese PSN game. The game starts off with a weird narration in japanese [but translated in captions]. As the story goes a purple beam of light hits the earth then zombies and monsters appear and starts devouring everyone around the the world like a fat guy eating a quadruple cheeseburger. However, those in buildings who viewed this horror are technically survivors and its up to you, the last guy to save them.

Gameplay:

Basically it feels like I'm playing a flash game on my PS3. A high quality flash game that is. Even though it's not an action game where you fight off the zombies and monsters it feels like a modern day remake of the old SNES classic 'Zombies Ate my neighbors' [without weapons] adding a taste of Google maps. It's also pretty difficult to because of the fact that you have to lead 1,000 people to the safe point within the alotted amount of time. Plus with the Zombies chasing you it makes it kinda hard to run albeit with your stamina running very short.

Graphics:

Like I said before the graphics look like a high quality flash game. The graphics are sweet looking, period. Only problem is that you never see what the monsters, people, or the last guy [you] look like up close. It's an overhead camera that leers above the city google maps style. Other than that thats the only way I can pretty much describe the graphics of the game.

Music:

Music is very amazing and ok but it really kicks in when the clock chimes down with those thumps letting you know to get the fuck back to the Safe point before time is up and the rescue chopper arrives.

Overall:

The Last Guy is an amazing game. Weird but fun. Even Shadow agrees but with me I enjoy weird Japanese games. This was my favorite and I recommend it to anyone who likes fun, fast paced, and challenging games like this. Go buy it on PlayStation Network now!!!

I give it a 8.5 out of 10 for creativity and cool japanese weirdness.

Socom U.S. Navy Seals: Confrontation Preview

For the last 4 hours, I'm sure all of you (and me :-D) have been playing the Socom Confrontation Beta. I'm here to give you all a quick preview on this wonderful piece of art. First of all, it's a beta so understand that my words will say some negative things refering to the beta. This game has amazing potential. When I first downloaded the beta it was at 1pm EST, and finished at 4pm EST. When I first jumped into the beta, I was amazed of how well the dashboard is.

The Network Sign-On didn't take too long at all. I was greatly impressed with how the game started out. I began to customize my character and noticed some lag. It wasn't un-godly horrible but it was enough to annoy you. I got it done it about 10 minutes (which isn't horribly bad) and proceeded to the lounge. Pretty niffty! The lounge was packed! Sweet. Anyways, I proceeded to enter a game and had to wait...20 minutes. Wait....20? Yep. Drove me mad. A lot of my friends from the Playstation Forums had the same problem.

So The match started and was GREAT for like 10 minutes until the lag started flooding in. I was able to pull off a couple of matches until the server started messing up and has now caused a ton of problems for most of us. Now a ton of us really can't sign in :-S As I said at the beginning folks, this is a BETA, and beta's have problems. So far, Slant Six started off well with the game, and just need to fix server issues. The characters, environment, controls, and music are stunning. It might not be as realistic as MGS4 and such, but you have to give Slant Six credit for such an awesome job on the game so far. Keep it up guys!!!

What's new in my gaming life?

Hello everyone! I'm really sorry I haven't been writing much lately. With the whole getting a job & training for the Metal Gear Online World Championship, it's been a pain in the ass trying to write all this news that has been coming out lately. So I thought I'd give you all an insight on my gaming life at the moment.

As of last night, I purchased both expansion packs to Super Stardust HD (The single & multiplayer packs) and Ratchet & Clank: Quest For
Booty. I gave the expansion packs a try. Endless Mode-This mode is INSANE. No joke. As high a score as I hold in the High Scores list, I thought I would be doing well, but I was wrong. I can't even survive 7 minutes without getting killed (That Trophy is a b**ch to get). Survival Mode-lmfao! Even worse! EVERYTHING swarms at you. Good luck. I did get a chance at the beginning to last 45 sec. without firing anything. Well I last 45.1 seconds lmfao. I still got the trophy. Twas a Golden one. Bomber Mode-This mode is the hardest mode in the game. You only have bombs. Wait....no boost, or weapons....just bombs? Yep. You have enemies flying at you and you only start off with 9 bombs. In order to get the trophy in this mode you have to get 15 bombs. No, not use them then gain a couple and add it all up. You have to have 15 bombs at once. That's hard as hell when you have enemies flying at you.

R&C:Quest for Booty is an amazing game!! It's only a couple hours long but hey, I only paid $15 for it. The game runs on the same engine as FTOD (Future Tools of Destruction) so it's guarinteed to be amazing. The voice acting, the graphics, the storyline, environment....they are all stunning. Any of you out there who has beaten FTOD HAS TO PLAY THIS GAME!!!

The MGO WC Tournament hasn't been too bad. It's been a lot of fun, and also a lot of work. Having to work everyday and take time to train has been a pain sometimes. We have lost two game so far. The first match was against NeoGaf. They were good and we held our fort down well. The last couple of matches were extremely close but hey, congrats to NeoGaf for doing a great job! The second match was insane. The guys there were really good. They stayed well hidden and their accuracy was very good. Clean headshots and all. Congrats you guys as well!!! (Still have no clue what your names are...lol.)

The wonderful people (Liars) at Sony promised us on the 7th of August that Life with Playstation AND The Home Expanded Beta invites for North America will be out by the end of August. So....it's August 29th, no news, no nothing. Yes yes I know what you all are saying, "There's only two days left in the month, so wait!" Well last time I checked, that's a weekend. Nobody works on the weekends most of the time. I doubt they'll release anything for us on the weekend. Thanks again Sony. You do great at what you do (lying to us)!

Besides the Home Beta, on September 1st, another great beta will be opened to all you people who paid your way in (including me). Yes, the Socom U.S. Navy Seals: Confrontation Beta will start on Sept. 1st. Within the next 2-3 days you all should be recieving your codes from Sony (Can't wait to get mine!!!!). Best of luck to all of you that Neo & I face on the beta!

So I finally decided to put more time & effort into Bionic Commando: Rearmed and realized that it is an amazing game! Most people play a little and usually never complete it, but damnit, I am proud to say that I took the time to complete and by God, is one of the best PSN games to date! The gameplay gets better once you have aquired the extended Bionic Arm that allows you to grab soldiers that throw them across the level. Trust me, with tons of soldiers throwing grenades and such at you, throwing them in a pit or at an explosive barrel, takes the anger away.

Well, with the recent lust to play fl0wer, I have decided to go back and play fl0w. fl0w is a really innovative game that utalizes the SixAxis function to control your creature. Most people assume it's a pointless game, but if you really pay attention, it's about the emotion. The graphics are beautiful and when I say beautiful, I mean BEAUTIFUL. For all of you that haven't gotten the chance to place this masterpiece, fl0w is on sale for $7.99 on the PSN. This package ALSO INCLUDES the fl0w expansion pack as well. So jump on this sale as soon as you can!

What a gamer eh? Well, that's all I have to say for now, but next week I'm sure I will have some goodies about Home (MAYBE), and the Socom Beta. So keep your eyes peeled on this site and you'll be informed well!! Thanks for reading!

Guitar Hero movie = Possible Epic Fail

Ok, I whatsoever have no problem with Brett Ratner especially since he produced and worked on my favorite movies [The Rush Hour trilogy] and tv shows [ like "Prison Break" Season 3 and upcoming Season 4]. No problem whatsoever. But the idea to come up with a Guitar Hero movie? It sounds ridiculous. Might as well make a 'Rock Band' movie as a spin off or sequel if thats the case. I just cannot imagine it coming out right. It'll be like making Dance Dance Revolution: The Movie. How would the game be an influence in the story?

It would look kinda lame if he ends up having the guitar hero buttons appear on screen during certain parts of the movie where the band has its concerts and shows. The only video game movie that actually pulled off stuff that the player controls in a game that is seen in a movie was those guys who worked on 'Doom'. Doing 'FPS style' camera movement is one thing but letting movie viewers see buttons on screen and rifts? Highly likely, useless, and lame. However if they dont do that then its a small chance that people might like the movie.

Now if he does a documentary of Guitar Hero players going to contests, tournaments, and such almost being like his own 'King of Kong' doc then it would be sweet. He could pull it off. I dont mind him going for it he just needs to be careful how he plans it out otherwise he'd lose ALOT of money since this would be targeted to the Gamer/ Rocker audience. Although, I do hope that since he's planning on doing this he at least beaten one of the games to come up with his own story. I also hope that harmonix and Sony will have their hands in this because it at least Sony could promote certain products [*cough*PS3*cough*] in the movie to obtain partial rights and credit. Anyways, Good luck to you Brett Ratner.

"The E3 Killer"-Leipzig Games Convention

Dear friends, Leipzig is over! Many great announcements have been addressed this year and I'm here to let you know about my personal favorites. In 2007, E3, the biggest gaming convention in the world was announced to be invite only. Most people were disappointed (I sure was since I had $1,500 saved up for it right when they announced that it was invite only :-( ) and most people looked forward to other events to fill the void in there hearts in which E3 used to be. This years top gaming event so far happened to be the Leipzig Games Convention. Why? Well it was obvious...people were ACTUALLY allowed to come to the event! Our favorite console maker, Sony appeared at the convention this year and had some amazing announcements. First of which was Playstation Home being released this year. You heard me right, they promised us 100% that Home will be released by the end of the Calander year.

Another exciting announcement was the Heavy Rain demo changing from False to Fact. It's now official! An exact release date is to be determined for the Demo. Heavy Rain is expected to be released in 2009. Ever been wondering what that 'Secret' game was that Sony has been working on? The game happens to be called "Savage Moon". A bug-infested strategy game with a major twist. No other information was given out but keep your eyes on the look out for more information around Tokyo Game Show!

One announcement that caught my eye was "EyePet". This is a game that appears to be as cute as LittleBigPlanet. It's a game that works with the Playstation Eye and allows you to interact with your virtual pet Forget Nintendogs, this is the real deal! No stylus needed to pet your lovable friend when you can do it your self on your Playstation Eye with your own hand! Keep up the great work Sony!!!

Those are just the few great announcements that Sony had to offer. If you go to Kotaku or PS3Fanboy, then you'll notice the other great games that appeared at GC2008. The next event that is up in the lineup is TGS 08 (Tokyo Game Show 2008). Keep an eye out for more great games when TGS arrives this year! Thanks for reading!

.Fight for the Fame.

As we all (should) know, the release of
Street Fighter 4 arcade version will be released to the US. next week. That means all you freakin breathing eating, eye ball looking human beings should be psyched like you just won a million dollars!!!!

The arcade version will be released with High Res. Graphics (Woh right?) and amazing controllers, as all fighters do. All i have to say is, enjoy the fight for fame.

Kojima and the MGS5 Role possible?

Yes, as Kojima states in his interview with Kikizo blog that with him keep saying he'll end the series after every game he realizes that his predictament is almost like popular anime "Spirited Away's" Creator Hiyao Miyazaki. But how could this happen if Snake's story ended in MGS4? Who would continue the series? And what enemy could there be in hiding, waiting to do more evil and destruction to the world? We'll just have to wait and see what else is on the mind of the Metal Gear creator if he intends on continuing the Metal Gear Story. Also as fans who appreciate Mr. Kojima's hardwork on the series and work on other series as well; Boktai and Z.O.E. We would like to wish Mr. Kojima a Happy 45th Birthday and may the stars watch over you.

Heres a nice cake for you
..

You do? We thought you would...because well...

XD

Metal Gear Online World Champsionship 2008n Tournament

Ok, I'm sure many of you who probably have MGS4 on PS3 played MGO. Some liked it while some hated it. Personally I love it but it's not perfect. In fact even though the first MGO was a little clunky I enjoy both of these in certain parts, but the original was better in most. Anyways, Konami and GameBattles [owned by MLG of course] has announced a tournament where the stakes are high [$8,000] and a free trip [Tokyo, Japan] is up for grabs. This is mainly one of the reasons why we took a little long to update because we're entering the tournament as well, but we're trying to scout out players for our team and train extra hard. We apologize for the lag of the next post. But we will make sure and try to keep updating along with giving you news about Leipzig Convention and the upcoming TGS. So far we got alot of news coming. Watch for it!

In the mean time go here to read the official rules.

Socom: Confrontation Beta Expands Over-Seas/Leipzig Games Convention

The U.S. will be getting some friends on Sept. 1 for the Socom: Confrontation Beta! This will include all of the European & Asian areas. Here in the U.S. you have to slap down a Lincoln towards the pre-order of Socom Confrontation in order to get into the beta. It is unknown at the moment on how Europe & Asia will get in but information will be released soon (I'm looking at Leipzig.) In other news, for all of you who are interested in Sony's conference at Leipzig, Sony has some big plans for us. Sony mentioned that their announcments will not be Europe only, but also the rest of the world (Crossed fingers for U.S. Home Expanded Beta Invitation release date!) So pay close attention this week. The Leipzig Games Convention will start Thursday, August 21st and will continue till Sunday, August 24th. By the way, there is also no Xbox 360 Press Conference either. Looks like this could be Sony's time to shine.

*UPDATE*-Sony's Conference will be held on Wednesday, August 20th.

DVDs to watch for: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Looking back from when I was 4 when Terminator 2 came out thats what pretty much got me along with other kids who saw the movie into robots, cyborgs, and stuff like that. Basically more into the Terminator series. Then I saw Terminator 3 and all hope for the rest of the movies were lost. Then thats when I saw the tv series to the show [which is sorta a big contradiction to the movie series but was good]and hope has returned. If I were you I'd get this dvd errr Blu-ray version of the first season to enjoy before the second and other seasons come along with the impending 4th Terminator movie; Terminator Salvation. Get it now before the present becomes the past and the future becomes forsaken of crappy DVDs.

Playstation 3 Music Instrument Compatibility Update

If you are a Rock Band or Guitar Hero nutcase like me and very aggravated that you couldn't use a Guitar Hero Guitar on Rock Band, then this article is for YOU! Our good friends over at SCEA have been working with companies such as Neversoft, Konami, Harmonix, & Activision on making all Playstation 3 Drumsets & Guitars compatable for each game. Yes, you can finally use Guitar Hero Guitars on Rock Band and vice-versa! It's a miracle! For the full entry by Michael Shorrock over at the Playstation Blog, follow the link here

The Kingpin's Perspective on the fight between Playstation 3 & Xbox 360

Sony's Playstation 3 vs. Microsoft's Xbox 360. A battle that has been fought well for the last 2 years. As a Sony Fanboy, I should be favoring Playstation and Playstation only right? Wrong. As much as I love the Playstation brand to death, I also approve of the 360. One thing that impresses me about the 360 is Xbox Live, an extremely well done add on for the 360. I have never had a problem with Xbox Live. If Sony would have something organized like Xbox Live, we wouldn't have too many problems with online connections and such. Sony relies too much on other companies working the online portions for them, while Microsoft handles it themselves. EA & Gamespy have some of the worst online connections in the world. It's so hard to have a fun game without massive amounts of lag ruining it. Sony needs to take matters in their own hands and work hard on stabalizing one central online system to take care of all games with online compatability. Sony has the games. No doubt about it. Microsoft might have Fable, Halo, & Gears of War, but Sony has Metal Gear Solid, Little Big Planet, Killzone, Resistance, inFamous, SOCOM, God of War, and many more. Now I know I mentioned more games than 360 but hey, We have the games. Deny it all you want but we do. I think trying to bring all us gamers together with Playstation Home also is a major plus. Blu-Ray beating HD-DVD was a stab to the chest to Microsoft. Maybe this is sounding more in Sony's favor just because I'm more of a games person and let's face it, Sony has 1st & 3rd Party support and Microsoft is more Online based. In all, I like the 360 when I'm playing online games, but their single player games don't really impress me. Sony needs to work more on its online side and keep on track with where there going with their 1st & 3rd party titles. Also, bring in more Playstation 1 titles too Sony!!! We're sick of Japan getting every damn PS1 titles known to man. Anyways...I'm a Sony Fanboy and proud to admit, but I'm not completely blind. I understand when Sony has its problems that need to be fixed. Viva la Sony!

Girl Gamer: Ann Angel [NSFW]

Those who aren't strangers to porn should know the name Ann Angel. But I'm sure some of you probably don't know that she has a fetish for Master Chief. Yeah, this amazing blonde was hot enough that well we had to put her on the front page. [ahem] But in seriousness though, the website featuring the hotness herself is in the style of a normal geek's blog. Site's okay and friendly to new users but it's not something I would show to a younger brother whom would probably pass out copies during gym in middle school. No, this is something that only mature geeks can truly appreciate. The only question is....

If they made DVD movies for Video Game Fetish like this would you buy it, rent it. or ignore it [less likely if you're a guy] ?

What's your opinion?

*Rumor*-American Home Expanded Beta Invitation Date

I would take this only as a "Rumor", but keep it in mind since it's the only information we have. Appearntly, someone over at feedonps3.com has recieved information from 2 SCEA Customer Service Reps about the release date for the U.S. Home Expanded Beta Invitations. The Rumored date is August 26th.

Playstation Store Game of the Month.

Every month, Neo & I will be talking about our favorite PSN (Playstation Network) game. This month's decision was a lot more difficult than usual because a lot of great titles have been released and we enjoyed every single one. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Bionic Commando: Rearmed & Street Fighter Alpha, but the game that I have fallen in love with this month is "PixelJunk Eden".

ShadowKingpin- The 3rd instalment in the series, "PixelJunk: Eden" does what it's previous instalments did, blow our minds with gigantus amounts of fun. The other two were PixelJunk: Racers & Montsters. In this instalment, you play as a grimp in which has to collect pollen in order to fill seeds which eventually grow into plants that help you get to the top. At the top are spctres. Each level starts off with 1-2 but the more you replay the same level, it adds 1 more Spectre. There are a total of 50 in the game. "PixelJunk: Eden" is also accompanied by an interesting soundtrack. The music is not heavy or techno, it's actually peaceful. You'll have to get the game yourself to understand what I'm talking about. Another interesting addition to the game is the add-on of Trophies. The game itself is extremely fun, but this just boosts up the replay value of the game. The last, yet greatest part of this masterpiece, is the addition of in-game video recording. Video Recording you ask? That doesn't seem that interesting. Well that's not the whole thing. You can record till about 10 minutes of you playing and put it on YouTube. Yes, PixelJunk: Eden is linked to YouTube. You can either upload it on YouTube or directly to your HDD.
In my opinion, this game has blown all of the competition out of the water. From the great soundtrack, to the incredible replay value, "PixelJunk: Eden" has earned ShadowKingpin's choice for Playstation Store Game of the Month.

The Weekly Rant from a Fanboy's Perspective

What an Interesting week it has been for us Sony fans! If everyone has been paying attention, I'm sure you are just like Neo & I and have your Playstation 3 Theme changed to the Home background for a good chance in getting into The "Home Extended Beta". Just recently, the Europeon's have all gotten their invitations to the beta, as well as Japan. So far, everyone is very happy with how Home has turned out. For the rest of us (America), we should be receiving our e-mails from Sony withing the coming week.

The Playstation Store update this week was a very nice treat for the Sony community. We have gotten our hands on "Bionic Commando: Rearmed", & "Street Fighter Alpha". These games have shown a great amount of fun and are two games that Hardcore Gamers should really go out and purchase. In case you don't know the price for these 2, BC: Rearmed is $9.99, while SF: A runs at a resonable price of $5.99. For any of you major RockBand fans out there, We've got some added tracks for you to rip up.

"Runnin' Wild" - Airbourne

"Clouds Over California" - DevilDriver
"Constant Motion" - Dream Theater
"My Curse" - Killswitch Engage
"Aesthetics Of Hate" - Machine Head
"Sleepwalker" - Megadeth

Make sure to also pay attention for next Thursdays Playstation Store Update. Sony has just announced that "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Demo" will be making its debut on the Playstation Store next Thursday. Also, RockBand will be getting some more "different than usual" tracks as they have decided to rock not just in the 90's and 2000's, but in the 80's. Yes, Harmonix has decided to release an allstar lineup for the Playstation Store next Thursday consisting of artists like: Duran-Duran, Devo, & The Janitors.

Anyone still interested in the Mysterious looking "Legendary"? Well wait no more, Legendary will be mystifying your Playstation 3 Consoles in "Late September". The official release date will be announced here soon. For all of you who have been keeping up with Final Fantasy XIII know that Square-Enix has just had their annual DKΣ3713 Party. During the party, they announced that with the Blu-Ray version of "Advent Children: Complete", there will a demo of Final Fantasy XIII that is packaged inside. So just a normal 5-10 minutes demo eh? Of course not! Actually, Square-Enix has just announced that the demo is long, so long in fact, that it's longer than Advent Children: Complete. So in otherwords, a minimum of 90 minutes long! The Sony Fanboys are thanking their gods for this wonderful gift as we speak!

That is all I have to talk about this week. Everyone I will post a rant that will sum up what has happened for the Playstation 3 for that week. Hope you enjoyed the post and thanks for reading!!!

Leipzig will not have PS3 SKU Price cuts

Once again Europe gets anally raped by Sony. How you ask? No Price cuts for the PS3. "It's not going to happen. If you're coming for that you'll be disappointed," Sony Computer Entertainment spokesman Nick Caplin said. This news will come as a shock next week to alot of Euro-Sony Fanboys and true gamers out there They are going to be so pissed it's gonna be total euro-chaos! But to be honest this is no surprise, really. Because when the 80gig in the U.S hits stores once again in September for around $300 [which is pocket change] Sony will once again lose money. Being a sacrificial company for selling their systems cheap these days I think they decided that even though they wont lower the price for the PS3 they will at least be making more money in Euros. Converting European currency to American currency is usually alot these days. Then again I digress but seriously Sony. You're doing good in Japan and so far the U.S. but it's still not good enough when it comes to games. You need more exclusives to get through in this kind of business and so far with only 1 or 2 price cuts it's not putting a dent or quenching the thirst for gamers and for you guys. Sony, really needs to make some more adjustments. I'm not saying Sony isn't doing enough but Sony still has ALOT of work ahead for them. GTAIV and MGS4 was the beginning of it's journey for console conquest. What is ahead in the future for Sony's goliath of a console?

Parasite Eve Spin-off makes fanboys [and girls] crazy

Ok, before you start going crazy and jumping around like a certain actor on a couch you need make sure and read this correctly. According to the word on the street SquareEnix is attempting to place Parasite Eve's Spin-off "The 3rd Birthday" on the PSP. Aya Brea will return to the leading role. Thats the good news. The BAD news is no information or news on the original Parasite Eve's placing on PSN. They really need to focus on the PS3 more since it's such a drought of PS3 and PSN games. Sure we have "Bionic Commando: Rearmed" and "Street Fighter Alpha" being released. But come on! This is Parasite Eve! Square-Enix's best RPG Shooter and a worthy nostalgic game. If this, it's sequel, and maybe the spin-off [in a few more years] appear on PSN then Sony will possibly regain the same sales value just like when GTA4 and MGS4 was released. An early Christmas for Sony.
